Black Chaunsa (also known as Kala Chaunsa or Original Chaunsa) traces its origins to the historic Battle of Chaunsa fought in 1539 between Sher Shah Suri and Mughal Emperor Humayun. Legend has it that the mango variety was named after the battlefield and has been cultivated in the Indian subcontinent for over 400 years.
Unlike the selectively bred White Chaunsa, Black Chaunsa retains the traditional, more complex flavour profile that made Chaunsa famous worldwide.
